FLCL(Japanese: フリクリ,Hepburn: Furi Kuri, pronounced in English as Fooly Cooly) is an original video animation (OVA) anime series written by Yōji Enokido, directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki and produced by the FLCL Production Committee, which consisted of Gainax, Production I. G, and King Records. FLCL follows Naota Nandaba, a twelve- year- old boy living in the fictional Japanese suburb of Mabase, and his interactions with Haruko Haruhara, who arrives in the quiet suburb, drawn by the industrial town houses and the Medical Mechanica building.

His life in the city of Mabase is interrupted by the arrival of Haruko Haruhara, who runs over Naota with her yellow Vespa 1. O." portal, from which giant robots produced by a company known as Medical Mechanica emerge periodically. Naota later finds Haruko working in his house as a live- in maid.

It is later discovered that Haruko is an investigator for the Galactic Space Police Brotherhood. Haruko uses Naota for her search for the Pirate King, Atomsk. She is at odds with Medical Mechanica, a monolithic industrial corporation. Naota is being watched by Commander Amarao, a special agent of the Bureau of Interstellar Immigration, who believes that Medical Mechanica is out to conquer the galaxy.

Naota is ultimately drawn into a three- way battle between Haruko, Amarao and Medical Mechanica. Production[edit]FLCL was directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki and produced by the FLCL Production Committee, which included Gainax, Production I. G,[7] and Starchild Records.[8]Tsurumaki has said that he tried to "break the rules" of anime when making FLCL, for example, by choosing a contemporary Japanese band to provide the soundtrack, and patterning the style more after "a Japanese TV commercial or promotional video", creating a work that is "short, but dense- packed".[9]FLCL's localization director and script writer Marc Handler stated that localization of the script was the hardest part of the show. He asks why she always does that and she replies that she has to or she will overflow, presumably emotionally. Naota narrates his life in the city of Mabase as being "ordinary" and "nothing ever happens there." Naota and Mamimi buy a drink from a vending machine and Mamimi points out a hickey on Naota's neck, when they are interrupted by the arrival of Haruko Haruhara, who runs over Naota with her Vespa scooter, gives him CPR, then hits him on the forehead with a left- handed Rickenbacker 4. The blow leaves a large, horn- like bump which Naota covers with a bandage.

The next day, his classmates tell rumors about the "Vespa woman" and how getting hit by the Vespa leaves a mark that shows you've been doing perverted things. He's then stalked by Haruko as he goes to the hospital after school. Haruko turns out to be the nurse and Naota runs away. After returning home, Naota finds Haruko working in his house as a live- in maid. Haruko settles in Naota's room.

However, Naota and Haruko argue about where she will sleep and Naota says she should stay with his father. He goes downstairs, where his father says that Mamimi came by to get the day old bread from their bakery and inquires if Mamimi's family is poor. When Naota goes to find her, she tells him how much she likes his brother, who lives in America because of his professional baseball career. Naota reveals to her that his brother has an American girlfriend. Mamimi suddenly says she's overflowing.

A robot and a detached piece of another from Medical Mechanica come out of the bump on his head and begin fighting, only to have the battle end with Haruko hitting the robot with her bass. 2"Fire Starter / Fi. This is because the blow to his head created an N. O. Portal which doesn't show up on the X- rays. Haruko tells him she's a First Class Space Patrol Officer. Mamimi is obsessed with a hand- held video game called Fire Starter, in which the player performs the role of an arsonist in order to please the Lord of Black Flames, Cantido.

The robot is kept occupied doing chores at the Nandaba residence, while Haruko, despite being the maid, performs little to no work. Mamimi sees the robot while he is recovering the parts from his head that Haruko had damaged, wearing black wings, a halo and flying off a burned rooftop. She believes him to be a god and calls him Kanti. Haruko tries to break into the Medical Mechanica plant in town, which is in the shape of a giant iron. She fails and questions security why there is no entrance or exit. She is taken home by Naota. A series of fires meanwhile erupts around the city.

Naota visits the site of one fire with two of his school friends, where he sees Mamimi down by the river and learns from his friends that she is being bullied at her school. Naota realizes it is Mamimi who is starting the fires. He finds her performing a 'fire ritual' by the water bank.

She explains she burnt down her old school house when she was younger because she 'hated the place', and had been saved from the flames by Naota's brother, which was the reason she loved him. She ends the ritual by asking the robot to bless her with a kiss. A robot emerges from Naota's head then, and starts to battle Kanti. Naota merges with Kanti, transforming into a large weapon to destroy the robot.

However, as the story progresses and the truths about the Titans are slowly revealed to the reader, the narrative shifts to encompass Historia Reiss, squad leader Levi, Eren's father Grisha, and other supporting characters.

Titans(巨人,Kyojin) suddenly appeared and nearly wiped out humanity, devouring them without remorse or reason. What remains of humanity now resides within three enormous curtain walls: the outermost is Wall Maria (ウォール・マリア,Wōru Maria); the middle wall is Wall Rose (ウォール・ローゼ,Wōru Rōze, sometimes pronounced like rosé) and the innermost is Wall Sheena (ウォール・シーナ,Wōru Shīna, alt. Wall Sina"). Inside these walls, humanity has lived in uneasy peace for one hundred years, many people growing up without ever having seen a Titan. This all changes when one day, a giant 6. Colossus Titan mysteriously appears after a strike of lightning and breaches the outer wall of the Shiganshina district, a town at Wall Maria, allowing the smaller Titans to invade the district.

An Armored Titan smashes clean through the gate in Wall Maria, forcing humankind to abandon the land between Wall Maria and Wall Rose, evacuating the remaining population into the inner districts. The sudden influx of population causes turmoil and famine. The Titans are giant humanoid figures ranging between 3–1.

Although they do not appear to need food, they instinctively attack and eat humans on sight; it is mentioned that they derive their energy from sunlight. Furthermore, the Titans also do not have a proper digestive tract; once they have eaten their fill of human prey, Titans will vomit large, slimy balls, derisively referred to as "hairballs". Finally, their skin is tough and difficult to penetrate, and they regenerate quickly from injuries, save for a weak spot at the nape of their neck. Combating the Titans is the military, which is divided into three branches.

Foremost in the story is the Survey Corps(調査兵団,Chōsa Heidan), which goes out into Titan territory to try to reclaim the land. The Survey Corps are heavily derided in society because of their apparently senseless high casualty rate and little sense of progress.

The second and largest branch is the Garrison Regiment(駐屯兵団,Chūton Heidan), which guards the walls and the civilian populace. The third branch is the Military Police Brigade(憲兵団,Kenpeidan), who guards the royal family and live relatively relaxed lives, although this eventually results in fraud, corruption, and political subterfuge. The soldiers use a tethering system called Vertical Maneuvering Equipment (立体機動装置,Rittai Kidō Sōchi) acting as a grappling system, allowing them to jump onto (and swing from) walls, trees, or nearby buildings to attack Titans with dual swords. However, despite it being the soldiers' primary line of both offense and defense against the Titans, it is useless in open and flat terrain like fields. It is later revealed that the Titans were created when Ymir Fritz found the "source of all organic life" and became the Founding Titan where she had the ability to create and control the Titans. Titans where their abilities can be inherited by anyone once the previous wielder is dead. These Titans consist of the Founding Titan, the Attack Titan, the Colossus Titan, the Armored Titan, the Female Titan, the Beast Titan, the Jaw Titan, the Cart Titan, and the War Hammer Titan. The 1. 45th King that wielded the Founding Titan's power fled to the island of Paradis where he used the countless Colossus Titans to make the walls and erased the memories of the Eldians he brought with him so that they didn't know anything about the outside world.

The story of Attack on Titan revolves around the adventures of Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend Armin Arlert. After the wall which protects their hometown of Shinganshina is breached by the Colossal Titan leading the other Titans to enter, Eren watches in horror as a smiling Titan eats his mother. Vowing to kill all the Titans, Eren enlists in the military, along with his friends. Five years later, the three cadet graduates are positioned in Trost District, one of the border towns jutting out of Wall Rose when the Titans attack again.
