Watch Dogs 2 Modders Hate The Game's Final Patch. Watch Dogs 2 got its final patch today, which makes impossible to use mods while online if you’re playing on PC. The game’s publisher, Ubisoft, says that this is to ensure fair online play, but the game’s small modding community is very frustrated. The 1. 1. 7 patch wasn’t announced as a modding blocker. The features rolled out in it include tweaks to the recently- added four- player party mode, as well as bug fixes for co- op. Shortly after it was released, some modders noticed and began to complain. If Watch Dogs 2 had been the blockbuster Ubisoft hoped it to be, that complaint might be loud, but instead it manifests as less noticeable venting on places like the increasingly barren Watch Dogs 2 subreddit.

There, loyalists who stuck with the game expressed their anger.“As of this morning, I found out that the latest update on PC killed modding,” Deebz__, an active and vocal Watch Dogs 2 modder, posted on the subreddit this morning. Any positivity from my original message has been rescinded.

When their latest work is buffed by a rival crew, two determined graffiti writers embark on an elaborate plan to bomb the ultimate location: the New York Mets' Home. Instead, I’ll just leave you with the list of a few issues in this utter mess of a game that you have failed to fix.” He listed a half dozen issues, including players on the opposite team being unmarked or marked as “friendly” during multiplayer modes and the game outright crashing when you shoot people. The Watch Dogs 2 modding community is small.

The modding community of WD2 in particular consists of like 1. Kotaku over reddit. According to Steam Spy, the game currently reaches a maximum of about 1,0. Modders use the game to to fix graphical issues as well as a few bugs. Deebz__’s favorite mod allows players to use the camera mode while in the helicopter. Deebz__ says he helped “pave the way” for modding Watch Dogs 2 and remembers multiplayer for the original Watch Dogs as being a “lawless wasteland,” with most players using mods to cheat.

He says that he and his fellow modders use their mods ethically. Only a few of us know how to mod the game properly, and we’ve all agreed to use our knowledge ethically,” he told Kotaku over reddit direct messages. We only play online with mods that do not give us an advantage, and we never released anything that could be used to cheat.”According to those players, modding was a means to having a smoother gaming experience.

Ubisoft, however, says modding has also at times hurt online play.“Though we appreciate that many in our community are very careful about not using mods while being online, this isn’t true of all players,” Kris Young, producer on Watch Dogs 2, told Kotaku over email. In order to create a healthy and fair environment for all our players, we had to fix this problem. You can now still enjoy your favorite mods while playing offline and disabling the [Easy Anti- Cheat] system (though we can’t offer official support for this) or enjoy a more fair online experience when playing online with your friends.”Even knowing they can still use mods, this isn’t an acceptable solution for members of the modding community. The online modes are too much of a part of the game,” Deebz__ said. Watch Lost City Raiders HDQ. Watch Dogs 2, like its predecessor, has passive online modes where other players can invade your game, as well as Pv. P multiplayer, all set in the game’s shared open world. Considering how few of us there are who actually do mod the game, and the fact that we do not release or even use any mods that give unfair advantages online, there really was no reason for this change in my opinion.”Deebz__ was an obvious person to talk to for coverage of Ubisoft’s mod- blocking patch, because Deebz__ has been visible in discussions about this game.

He is the kind of outspoken gamer who uses the tools available to him to tell developers how they can improve their game. When he noticed a problem with the escape key being bound to too many functions in the game, he didn’t just complain about it on reddit, he typed out changes to the game’s code that he said would solve the issue and posted them for Ubi reps who monitor the game’s subreddit to see.“A Ubisoft representative told me that they would not fix this issue because it would allow players to skip scenes in the story that they were not supposed to skip, breaking the game in some cases,” he told Kotaku. He insists that his solution was totally fine. I can say this with absolute certainty, because I actually played through the entire story a second time after using this fix, and skipped just about everything I could in the process.”Deebz__’s problem now may be that Ubisoft says they can’t distinguish between mods that help players cheat and mods that don’t. This solution was a compromise they had to make, Young told Kotaku.

It’s a topic that has been on our minds since it was raised by community members who visited the studio well before the game launched,” Young said. We’ve come back to it several times since, but with the nature of our seamless technology, it’s a tradeoff we had to make to maintain healthy and fair online play.”.

Terrible Netflix Movies(And Amazing Ones)Ever since Netflix came into our lives, we’ve been pretty spoiled by having so much in one place. Sure, sometimes we get our favorite movies and shows taken off the site, and we realize there’s a little love- hate relationship there, but just imagine living without a service like Netflix. Can you really imagine “Blockbuster and chill” catching on? Luckily, we don’t have to deal with that thought. Instead, we’ve been given original shows like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, and so on. What about the original movies that Netflix has dished out? Which ones are worth watching, and which ones should you avoiding hovering over at all cost?

We’ve compiled the best and worst movies Netflix has distributed. From Sundance to Cannes, South by Southwest to Toronto, the website has swept through these festivals for new content, and this is what we came up with.

Here are the 1. 0 Netflix Movies That Are Terrible (And 1. You Need To Watch Right Now). Don’t: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. Crouching Tiger, Hiden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is on the list primarily because of how big of a disappointment it was, rather than it simply being bad. Not only is this a follow- up to a movie that won four Oscars, but it also brings back Michelle Yeoh as Yu. Additionally, no matter how great the predecessor was, adding in Donnie Yen once again would give even more character to this sequel. When the Crouching Tiger story picks up, Yu is now guarding the sword, Green Destiny, but is challenged for it by the warlord Hades Dai and his powerful clan.

Donnie Yen’s Silent Wolf and a small contingent of warriors come to the aid of Yu. Even with these two stars becoming involved, the perfect touch of emotion isn’t present in this film, and the story itself isn’t nearly as appealing. What’s even more disappointing is the fact the action sequences aren’t nearly as fluid as in Ang Lee’s original. It’s way too digitalized and some of the few cool scenes get too repetitive. There’s just not as much creativity or heart as the original. Do: Tramps. Tramps is a comedy that not nearly enough people have seen. It is a story of two young adults who botch a tradeoff of briefcases and must travel around New York to the right their wrongs.

Tramps premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and was released by Netflix in April of this year. You may have never heard of Grace Van Patten or Callum Turner, the two stars in this film, but they’re worth watching, mostly for what they don’t do with their performances. They’re not showy or over- acting, and instead are subdued and legitimately fun to watch. The movie is directed by Adam Leon, who previously helmed another underseen New York- centered film: Gimme the Loot. He gives a more complete project here in a brisk 8. Tramps exceeds expectation all the way through, even despite the stakes never being all that high.

It will give you a short and sweet nightcap to any evening. Don’t: You Get Me. Netflix has picked up plenty of good movies for distribution.

When it comes to thrillers, though, they haven’t exactly had any Get Out’s. You Get Me is also technically a thriller, as these types of movies are supposed to be the least predictable. However, this is not the case here, as we’re subjected to staying two steps ahead of the story. The movie is essentially about a boy who has a nasty breakup and has a one- night stand with a girl from out of town, only for his ex to end up wanting him back.

However, by this time, the new girl is already attached, and this leads down a very dark path of obsession. It does seem like Bella Thorne in the stalker role is convincing, and there’s at least noticeable effort on her part. If you want to watch a stalker thriller, though, you can do much better with Fatal Attraction. You Get Me is far too hackneyed and unexciting. If it hasn’t irked you the wrong way up until the end, attempting to pay homage to Sunset Boulevard will definitely do the job. Do: The Incredible Jessica James. Jessica Williams stars as the delightful title character in this rom- com, which premiered at Sundance this year and was one of the many films swept up by Netflix for distribution. The Incredible Jessica James isn’t the most unique film you’ll find on the streaming service.

It mostly centers around a hopeful playwright’s growing friendship after a nasty breakup. Simple is sometimes best, however, and with the one- time Daily Show correspondent Williams on screen, there is plenty of life brought to the story. The romance doesn’t always hit its mark, but both leads (Williams and Chris O’Dowd) turn in charming individual performances. The film won’t be blowing anyone’s mind or causing you to fall in love with the first person you see, but at a slim 8.

Don’t: Death Note. It’s nowhere near the worst Netflix film, but it may be the biggest letdown they’ve had yet.

At least we can say Death Note looked good, with the style of the Japanese manga coming to life. However, beyond that, there’s really no proper representation to the original series to be found. Death Note’s story centers around a notebook of the same name that falls into the hands of high school student Light Turner. With it, he has the power to bring death to anyone just by writing their name, a power he learns from the death spirit Ryuk. If the idea sounds compelling, that’s because it is.

You’re way better off watching the 3. Japanese live- action film that accompanied it. The engagement, the thrill, and the creativity that Death Note possessed before vanishes with this iteration.

Moving past its look, it doesn’t seem to know what kind of film it wants to be. It simply has no coherent plot and– even worse– no real purpose. Do: Win It All. New Girl’s Jake Johnson leads the cast of this dramedy, one that premiered at the South by Southwest festival and came to Netflix in April. Between Johnson, an appearance by Keegan Michael- Key, and the direction of Joe Swanberg, there’s plenty of great improvised comedy to go around. Win It All is the story of an amateur gambler who agrees to watch a large bag of cash for an acquaintance headed off to prison.

He, of course, loses the money, and when the sentence is shortened for said acquaintance, he’s up against the clock to make all that cash back. The film hasn’t been gifted with as great of a response from fans as it has by critics. This is probably due to the fact that it has a plot that takes time (and then some) to develop. However, for many, the well- timed comedy in between will go a long way. Also, the final act makes the rest of the film more than worth the watch. Don’t: Rebirth. Remember what we said about Netflix thrillers?

Well, Rebirth falls into the same sub- par category. It was released on Netflix in July of last year after a turn at the Tribeca Film Festival. It follows the strange and dangerous journey through the mind of Kyle, who is convinced by his crazy best friend to join the Rebirth self- actualization program. It has its trippy moments and an entertaining performance by Adam Goldberg (the friend) for as long as he’s in it. What sets up to be an interesting, down- the- rabbit- hole type of story, though, ends up with nothing to show for itself.

While taking a stab at irony, it also attempts to uncover the limits of human nature, and enjoys just having a few screws loose. However, it tends to wear you down watching it, and not because it’s very intellectually involved.
